ABS6 Nationals
March 18th and 19th, 2005

Over 150 competitors and 300 spectators convened on March 18th and 19th. It was the second and final stop on the ABS6 National Tour, and good times were had by all.

On Friday, the Open Qualifiers took place, with 39 men and 18 women vying for a spot in the Finals on Saturday. After Qualifiers, Ironwork’s first-ever Video Night enthralled those who hung around with incredible base-jumping antics and cutting-edge crack climbing in Peter Mortimer’s new film “Parallelojams”. On Saturday, another hundred folks stopped in for some serious bouldering in the Citizen’s comp. Congrats to Frankie Ocasio and Alex Masse for taking top honors. Stein Skaar, gym manager, fired up the BBQ and the crowds mingled and watched the other events leading up to the Finals. The speed traverse and dyno comp were fun for competitors and spectators alike, and the Slackline Brother’s comp kept things going while the setters finished up the Finals.

The games were set aside, and the Finals began. The entire lead cave and the adjoining pillars had been stripped, and 8 super-sick problems had been set. The time started, and the top men and women started up their engines. Eventually all the problems except one got sent, but the fourth problem for both the men and women was a stunner and wasn’t sent until the last two climbers. The last five minutes was electric, and the crowd erupted when both Daniel Woods and Natasha Barnes sent their fourth problem for the clear win. Ethan Pringle and Laura Griffiths took second, and Simon Villeneuve and Lizzy Asher came in third.

If you came, thanks for being there! If you missed it, don’t miss the next one! Check out the new photo gallery to see some photos from the event.
